How much were you drinking and what problems was it causing?
I used to drink mainly white wine, 3 large glasses 3-4 times a week. But then changed to vodka/rum very generous home measures about 3 glasses. That may well be an underestimate. But I also took to hiding the spirits in my clothes drawers and would have a swig when I went into the bedroom. Thanking my husband wouldn’t notice or smell it on me. How naive I was.
What was the key reason you wanted to change- what motivated you?
It was affecting my relationship with my husband, and I was worried about my health and the long-term consequences.
How did you discover me?
On facebook
Were you sceptical this method would work for you?
Absolutely. Why wouldn’t I be when nothing else seems to work and everyone else seemed just fine managing alcohol, except me.
Did you try before to cut down or have a break from alcohol?
Yes I tried numerous times from moderating, dry January to hypnosis to Allen Carr stop drinking book and workshop. I managed 8 months with Allen Carr, but the training did not focus on any mindset shifts or looking at the differences between your conscious and subconscious thoughts.
Did you enjoy the group structure?
At first I felt very overwhelmed by it and it took a little while to embrace it. But the support from like minded people who were non judgemental was so important.
What difference has being alcohol free made to your life?
I look better
I don’t shout at my husband (well maybe less!) or say horrible things.
I can remember what I said the night before and it’s not shamefull/regretable
I like me better, but I still need to work on that, but this is just the start.
I know that I’m doing everything I can to reduce the long term effects of alcohol on myself and reducing the risk of long term complications with Type 1 Diabetes.
What would you say to someone thinking of signing up to work with me?
If you put the work in then the results are truly amazing. Even if you have just a little bit of hope at the beginning then that will grow with you. The group involvement and Sandra’s one to one coaching provides the support you absolutely need.
What are you most excited about now that you are alcohol free?
A long and healthy marriage.
Realising that the percieved benefits/joy of alcohol is an illusion and you can enjoy your life without it.
Continuing to be alcohol free and it’s not a deprivation.
