How much were you drinking and what problems was it causing?
I was drinking wine every Friday, Saturday and Sunday night for many years. I also often had a couple of glasses on a Thursday. I felt exhausted, low in energy, fatigue, bloated and had puffy eyes after drinking. I also struggled with guilt and shame for not being able to go without alcohol every weekend.
What was the key reason you wanted to change … what motivated you?
I wanted to gain control and feel able to ‘do without’ alcohol without feeling deprived for such a long time. Primarily for my health and to be a better role model for my children.
Were you sceptical this method would work for you?
YES!! I remember worrying that maybe I’d be the person for whom the programme wouldn’t work. Being with others in the group, who were sharing their struggles as well as their progress, was so motivating and inspiring. Having others on the programme at different stages of the 12 week programme is a particular strength.
What difference has being alcohol free made to your life?
I feel so much better. I feel less bloated and sluggish, I have much more energy, I’m sleeping brilliantly, wakening up feeling clear headed and knowing I will be active and achieve what I want or need to. Best of all, I have modelled drinking less and then abstaining from alcohol to my children and have been able to have ‘age appropriate’ conversations with them about alcohol.
What would you say to someone worried about their drinking thinking of working with me?
If you are struggling to gain control on your own, I would definitely recommend this programme. Definitely have that initial conversation with Sandra.
